Go Raglan Jobs is proving its worth, helping connect a local jobseeker with a finance and administration role at the Values Trust.

The Values Trust, which operates community initiatives including Floofsters Dog Daycare, Raglan Rural Retreats and the Little Libraries programme, was looking for a Raglan resident to join its team.

Founding Trustee Tesh Hearth says rather than using an accounting firm outside the district, the trust wanted to invest in local talent.

“We’re a local trust and we wanted to have a local finance admin person rather than dealing with an accounting firm in Auckland,” she says. “That’s why we used the site – support local, recruit local.”

The successful applicant, Jackie Ward, discovered the vacancy after seeing a post promoting Go Raglan Jobs on social media.

“I saw a social media post on one of the local pages promoting the Go Raglan page, and so I checked it out because I was actively looking for work,” she says. “The more people that can use it, the better. It’s really easy to navigate.”

Tesh was pleasantly surprised by the level of interest the position attracted, particularly as it was for just one day a week.

“We did quite a few interviews. I really didn’t know how many people would see it, but there was quite a lot of interest,” Tesh says.

Raglan Food Co, which Tesh co-founded is also focused on employing long-term local staff rather than relying on short-term workers, a shift Tesh says strengthens community connections while providing greater continuity for the organisation.

“We’ve really moved away from hiring travellers who show up wanting to work for a month or two. Now we need longterm, skilled, higherlevel people.”

Go Raglan Jobs is a community-run easy-to-use platform where job seekers can find and apply for local roles, and employers can quickly post, manage and fill vacancies in one central place.
